The approach we take is broadly based around the "Skilled Facilitator" work of Roger Schwarz. We thank him for his outstanding contribution to the professional discipline of facilitation. Other notable influences have been Chris Argyris, Donald Schön, Stafford Beer, Peter Checkland and the VitalSmarts organisation.

Naturally, we have added our own experiences and observations to the mix. The key steps we typically take are:

  • Engagement - development of work charter and authorisation to proceed
  • Discovery - orientation with client organisation, people, context and issues
  • Design - create a suitable intervention process and test
  • Deliver - facilitate people and groups through the process to achieve their purposes
  • Evaluate - gather feedback, observations and identify opportunities for improvement
  • Learn - apply lessons learned to next opportunity to serve and share with others

While we use this framework to enter into productive relationships with our clients, we adapt group processes to meet the specific requirements, expectations and culture of each group. For more information about how we might approach your needs, please contact us at The Forum.
